Photovoltaic Electricity
Photovoltaic (PV), in Latin means “sun electric”. PV material is made of silicon and activates molecules that generate Direct Current (DC) power. Silicon “cells” are connected and make up a solar module (or panel), the modules are ‘tied’ together and lead to an inverter, turning DC into AC power. That power is sent to the circuit breaker box.
When some or all of the solar power isn’'t being used, that electricity runs through the meter, “spinning the meter backwards”. Every state that offers “Grid-tied” solar systems requires utility companies to pay customers at the same rate for the excess electricity sent to them.
